Not Quite Concerto

If I don't practice one day, I know it; two days, the critics know it; three days, the public knows it. ~~Jascha Heifetz

I pulled my violin out of a very dusty case this morning, tuned it up after searching everywhere for an "A" and came to realize very quickly that a) I love the violin, b) it still fits me, and c) if I don't practice for many years, I have two choices: Put the violin back in its case or buy a very large bottle of Advil!

  1. This morning's little practice session was fun. Less pain in the left shoulder this time, and it seems like more of the 'muscle memory' was coming back. I found a particular piece I used to love, and got laughing when I tried to play it. I was laughing so hard that I had to put the violin back in its case. What fun!

My son, the commenter "Feurix", surprises me. He turns off his rock and roll when I start practicing. He could be hiding under his headphones, or he could be listening. I half expected him to comment here about how agonizing it is to have to listen!

No matter. I'm having too much fun with it to give up making practice a regular part of my day. The beautiful sound of a violin is unmatched. It's just going to take me awhile to be able to get my violin to sound beautiful...

  2. That is so cool that you are playing again!

I pulled my Clarinet a few years ago, and all I could do was squeak, which was hilarious. I wish I had it now (I lost it in a move) I would be playing it too.

    Good luck making beautiful music.

  3. You need to go find another clarinet! There's always a lot of instruments on craigslist - have you checked there?

Um, my pattern of practice has already been disrupted with other things going on, so now I'm starting over yet again. Sigh. And it will take lots of luck to get sounding good again at this rate!

    Thanks for reading Deanna!
