300 Drops, Never Again

For the first time, I hit the 300 drop limit on Entrecard. It took me all day to do it. I managed to run an ad that brought a lot of new visitors here, and I couldn't help myself, I had to drop back. Thank you, everyone, for stopping by and I hope you'll come back to visit again.

I saw some fantastic, wonderfully designed, beautifully written blogs today! I wish I wasn't in such a fervor to get all my reciprocal drops in because I sure wouldn't mind reading a lot more and getting to know the people behind those great blogs.

For this reason, wanting to read and comment, I will never again push like crazy just for the sake of returning drops. The work you've all produced deserves much more than just a quick glance. I know I've ripped myself off today, and you too.

300 drops won't happen again.

  1. don't beat yourself up... I am around 100 drops. Its about all I can do... I try to read and comment can't always do it.. Just enjoy yourself.

  2. I've only made it to 100 twice before, and felt even then that I was rushing instead of enjoying. You are right, Callie.

  3. Excellent post and so true. We are all so vain. Everyone has their own purpose for blogging. It seems reading other blogs is only for a few. Most bloggers just want to promote themselves, and are on a power trip as if only they know what is true, and only they are great enough to just promote and advertise, and chase their tails. I am glad you found the real purpose for blogging!

  4. LOL!!! i like what you've realized. Me, just hit 100 once, it true, if we pause to read and know more about the post and the author, more so comment, it can't really be fast.

    God bless you, friend! :)

  5. @ Euro - The only reason I promote at all is to touch more people and build community. A community of hit and runners isn't quite what I had in mind!

@ Mom - I'm glad I'm not the only one that is lucky to hit the 100 mark! I hope all those 100 are friends!

  6. 300? The entrecard gangbang. What an entrecard whore. Entrewhore.

    Heh.

Me? I can barely get to 10. I always end up reading a post or two on each. I'm a virgin that way. Since you didn't ask.

  7. Well, it won't happen again, that's for sure. Virgin or not, I'd much rather READ!!

  10. Now I am wondering if I should drop on you or not. I need to get some credits so I can spread the word about you. To make you known. But come to think of it, maybe I will not drop at all or promote you. I will just read. Old droppers that quit never die. They just fade away!

  11. I'm glad you stopped by again, Euro! My point was only that I will never be one of those "power droppers" - not unless cable makes it out to my neck of the woods and there somehow becomes 30 hours to a day instead of just 24...

By the way, I dropped on you.

  12. I was like you too. It took me most of the day to drop 300 cards and I was exhausted and didn't have enough time to do what I really wanted to do--read the blogs and write comments. Then I installed Firefox 3 and the Entrecard toolbar and now I can easily drop 300 cards AND read and comment along the way in MUCH less time! I have my life back!

  13. I have FF3 and the Entrebar (which keeps giving me duplicates of blogs I've already dropped on), but what holds me up is that my connection speed is right around 3 times faster than dialup. I have an aircard in an area with only EDGE available, though 3G is supposed to happen sooner or later here. That has been the biggest drawback to living way out in the country - what's available for Internet access. Sigh.

  14. I have hit the 300 drops mark a few times, I only meant to drop for a little while but the time escapes from ya.

  15. I'm with you...it's a really fine line between being a meaningful reader and an effective EC dropper.

I've toyed with this formula and realized that reaching the 300 max drops isn't really worth it. Like you, I'd be much happier getting to know a solid 150 blogs and commenting and reading into their archives.

Thanks for your EC drop on my blog, and I look forward to your future posts.

  16. Thanks Mik and Mike! You'll be seeing me around your blogs!

  17. Amen! I've tried to hit 300 before and every blog I breezed by was nothing but a blur...so now, in order to read and really "see" the blogs I drop on, I have had to quit caring how many drops I get a day.

  18. I am just focusing on reading and commenting on the blogs with worthwhile content (that means you), the drops are just an added bonus for me.

I think spending the while day dropping is just not as good as actual reading and commenting

  19. I've never even hit that mark. I get too distracted by what's important...reading the content.

That's me...ADD..."ooohhh look at the pretty pictures..." ;)

  20. Whew, 300? I have been at 100 per each of my blogs but not on one single blog. I agree, I would much rather come into interesting blogs and build that relationship than have lots of drops.

  21. And everyone's blogs have been fantastic lately! There's a lot of great stuff to read!

  22. I'm glad I join Entrecard. I find lots of good blogs in Entrecard and they deserve a little more respect. I enjoy reading your posts.
